Customer Feature | Figura Studio’s Smart Product Design that Meets Clever, Custom Packaging

At the intersection of engineering and everyday problem-solving, you’ll find Figura Studio—a product development and manufacturing studio founded by Zach Mohr. With a background in engineering and a passion for smart, simple design, Zach is on a mission to launch meaningful products that blend form, function, and sustainability.

The company’s first product? A sleek, spring-loaded toilet paper holder called the Roto—and it’s getting attention for more than just its clever mechanics.

To bring Roto to life, Figura Studio partnered with Arka for custom packaging that would stand out both online and on shelves.

From 3D Prototypes to Retail-Ready Products

Figura Studio is rooted in rapid prototyping and small-batch manufacturing. The studio primarily works with 3D printers, and its debut product, Roto, reflects that modern, iterative approach.

While many household accessories stick with traditional forms, Roto offers a user-first experience with minimalist design and a clever twist—literally.

Roto is designed to simplify one of the most irritating household chores: changing the toilet paper roll. Instead of the old-fashioned spring-loaded bar that pops out and rolls under the sink, Roto uses a spring-loaded frame that makes it easy to remove and reload with one hand.

“I put on the packaging: ‘the one-handed roll changer.’ Maybe I’ll trademark that or something,” Zach laughs.

A Package Worthy of the Product

Launching a new product means thinking beyond functionality—it’s about presentation, too. Zach needed a packaging solution that matched the high-quality look and feel of his product.

The result needed to stand out in boutique shops and specialty retail, while also feeling premium in direct-to-consumer shipments.

“We will use the custom mailer boxes to give a nice custom design that looks real good on shelves, specifically for in-store purchases. This will house our first product.,” Zach says.

Arka’s mailers provided the custom design capabilities he was looking for—with an intuitive 3D preview tool that let him visualize exactly how the box would look before ordering.

One detail he’s especially proud of is the typography on the outside of the box.

“I wrapped a text around the front that unfolds with the packaging,” he explains.

That thoughtful design moment turns a simple unboxing into a small reveal—an experience that supports the brand’s emphasis on clean, clever design.

Sustainability in Materials and Mindset

Sustainability plays an important role at Figura Studio, both in the products themselves and in the packaging they’re shipped in. While Roto is typically 3D printed using recycled PLA plastic, Zach also experiments with wood-based versions and other eco-friendly materials.

Choosing Arka allowed him to maintain that sustainability focus throughout the customer journey. Arka’s FSC-certified boxes offer an eco-conscious packaging option that aligns with the values behind the product.

It’s the kind of detail customers increasingly care about—and Zach makes sure to highlight it in his branding and product messaging.

The Road to Launch

Though Roto is still in the final prototyping phase, Zach is nearly ready to roll out his first batch for sale.

“Hopefully, we can start selling these. I'll start locally first, selling in person at boutique shops and maybe even a farmer's market,” he says.

His goal is to manufacture and sell the first 100 units, using Arka packaging for the initial production run.

Even at this early stage, he’s already thinking like a seasoned entrepreneur—making adjustments based on early feedback, planning new brand colorways, and refining the packaging.

"I'm getting some new colors for the brand as well. And I'm getting a new sample next week.”

Lessons from the First Product Launch

When asked what advice he’d offer to other entrepreneurs, Zach shares a lesson he’s learned firsthand: don’t do everything yourself.

“Know how to delegate,” he says. “I’ve been trying to learn Illustrator and do all the design work myself, but it’s probably not even worth your time. Use services like Fiverr or Upwork and let someone else handle it so you can focus on what you do best.”

It’s a lesson that many product founders eventually discover—success often depends on building the right ecosystem of tools and partners.

For Figura Studio, that includes Arka as a reliable packaging partner that helps bring Zach’s vision to life with clarity, consistency, and quality.
